The APDCAT and the EAPC recommend that young people limit the personal information in the digital content they publish on networks and ask for consent from identifiable third parties

The Catalan Data Protection Authority (APDCAT) and the School of Public Administration of Catalonia (EAPC) publish a series of recommendations for creating appropriate digital content that respects one's own privacy and that of others, and avoids risks to the security and integrity of people.

In this sense, the eighth video in the series 'Let's talk about personal data', jointly produced by both organizations, delves into the publication of digital content on networks, and how it can determine the present and future of people. In this sense, the video especially reminds children and young people that everything published on social networks remains there forever, since others can share it and it is out of control.

The video also delves into the personal information that can be disseminated without the user being aware of it. Thus, details can be given, for example, of the place where it is recorded, or identify third parties, license plates, etc. To avoid risks, the recommendations when creating safe and respectful digital content are:

• Think in advance about how much information you want to give about yourself: decide what you want them to know about you.
• Monitor the information that is shown: family photos, if license plates are visible, if the location is clearly identified and live, etc.
• Respect the privacy of others: pixelate people who appear accidentally, ask consent from third parties who intervene and inform them where they will leave from.
• Take special care in certain cases: do not publish data on minors, without the consent of their parents or guardians, and think before publishing specially protected data, such as those referring to religion or origin, which have historically been used to generate situations of discrimination.
• Keep in mind what personal data is: voice, license plates and anything that can be used to identify people.
• Avoid giving information about the location live: do not give clues about whether there is no one at home.
• Monitor what information we give to AI: it can reuse user data and, as a source of information, it is necessary to check the reliability of the information it offers.
• Use tools to protect privacy: to pixelate, for example, and prevent people from being identified.
• Remember and respect the minimum age to use social networks, which could be 14, 16, 18 years old, depending on the case.

These tips have been worked on the occasion of the collaboration between APDCAT and 3Cat to produce the second season of the ‘talent show’ ‘InfluencX3r’ by SX3, available on the platform.
