International working groups

The APDCAT is a member of several permanent international working groups that share experiences and knowledge on various topics related to data protection, new technologies, science and education. Specifically, it participates in the groups of the following entities:

  • Data Protection and Other Rights and Freedoms (DPORF) 

The Working Group on Data Protection and Other Rights and Freedoms (DPORF) began its mandate after the 41st Annual Conference of the Global Privacy Assembly (GPA) in 2019, with the aim of highlighting and promoting the integral relationship of the right to data protection with other rights and freedoms.

  • Digital Education (DEWG) 

The Digital Education Working Group (DEWG) was established by the Resolution adopted by the GPA in 2013, “A digital education for all”, and has the task of providing specific protection for minors in their relation to the digital world. The DEWG promotes tools for data protection authorities to promote digital education and helps share experiences in this common space between authorities.

  • Ethics and Data Protection in Artificial Intelligence 

The 40th Annual Conference of the GPA agreed in 2018 on a Declaration on Ethics and Data Protection in Artificial Intelligence that endorses six principles as fundamental values for the preservation of human rights in the development of artificial intelligence. The Declaration establishes this permanent group and mandates the promotion of the principles of the Resolution by all stakeholders involved in the development of artificial intelligence systems, including governments and public authorities, standards bodies, artificial intelligence system designers, providers and researchers, companies, citizens, and end users of artificial intelligence systems.

RIPD

  • Neurodata

In the meeting of the 20th anniversary of the Ibero-American Data Protection Network (RIPD) a declaration on neurodata was adopted and it was agreed to create a sector-based working group to analyse the legal bases of processing according to its purpose, as well as the principles, limits and guarantees applicable within the framework of personal data protection regulations for the processing of neurodata. 

Berlin Group (IWGDPT)

This working group was founded in 1983 at the initiative of the then Berlin Data Protection Commissioner, in the context of the International Conference of Data Protection Commissioners, and is therefore known as the "Berlin Group ". The International Working Group on Data Protection in Technology (IWGDPT) is responsible for observing trends and developments in the technological sector, such as big data, the Internet of Things or artificial intelligence. To this end, the group develops recommendations and guidelines for using these technologies in accordance with data protection requirements.
