The APDCAT launches a new corporate website, more attractive and accessible

As part of a process of transformation and modernization of the institution, included in its Strategic Plan, the Catalan Data Protection Authority has launched a new web portal that facilitates the user experience with more accessible, orderly and clear information, and with a more modern and attractive design.

The Catalan Data Protection Authority (APDCAT) has launched a new corporate website, which is the culmination of a set of projects included in its 2023-2028 Strategic Plan.

The new website has allowed the information to be restructured to facilitate access, as well as to present it in a more orderly and clear way, with plain, accessible and personalized language according to specific profiles. In this sense, the bulk of the information appears distributed in two blocks, depending on whether it is addressed to individuals or organizations. In the first case, information is mainly provided on data protection rights and how to exercise them, how to convey claims and complaints and how to find the data protection officer (DPO) of an organization. Access to available materials with advice on protecting privacy is also facilitated.

In the case of organizations, it mainly focuses on explaining the different roles when processing personal data (responsible, data protection officer and delegate), when the standard must be applied and what obligations must be met when processing personal data. It also allows direct access to specific procedures and training and information resources for organizations. It also includes information regarding consulting an entity's DPO, the APDCAT resolutions, codes of conduct and international transfers.

In addition, the new website includes general and specific regulations related to data protection, including international ones, and circulars, instructions, resolutions and provisions approved by the APDCAT, as well as guides and other support resources for understanding the subject. Finally, institutional information and interoperable data related to transparency and access to public information regulations also appear.

A more accessible website without third-party cookies

The change of web portal also represents an improvement in terms of accessibility. Thus, compliance with international standards is increased, especially in terms of contrasts, visual hierarchy and navigation. For the viewing of videos, Watchity has been chosen, a system that allows automatic subtitling in Catalan, Spanish and English.

On the other hand, it does not include third-party cookies, which are often used for commercial purposes to influence user decisions based on profiles. Piwik PRO has also been chosen for web analytics, a platform that anonymizes data.

Modernization and improvement of security

The new website project is one of those that  theAPDCAT has promoted in recent years, within a process of global modernization of the entity that has included the change of physical headquarters, electronic headquarters, the renewal of the brand and visual identity, the launch of a new file manager, a new intranet and a virtual space for the Data Protection Advisory Council.

In order to guarantee the security of the systems, work has also been done on the update and modernization of the Information Security Management System (SGSI) of the APDCAT, with the comprehensive review of the processes, technologies and internal policies, and with the active involvement of all the human teams of the organization.

As a result of all this work, last September the APDCAT obtained the ENS certification in the medium category and the ISO 27001, which internationally recognize the quality and security of its systems..
