The Catalan Data Protection Authority (APDCAT) has received and processed 183 notifications of personal data security breaches in 2023, which have affected nearly 1.5 million people, 82% more than the previous year

2024 is the first year that the sustained 20% annual increase in security breach notifications that the Catalan Data Protection Authority had been recording since 2018, with 14% fewer cyberattacks, and 230,000 people affected, far from the million and a half in 2023.

In 2025, the Catalan Data Protection Authority recorded a total of 232 data security incidents, affecting more than 730,000 people, with a 70 % increase in cyberattacks and human error as the leading cause
