The second edition of the training days on AI and data protection begins

More than 200 public sector professionals will attend the training sessions on artificial intelligence and parental protection on November 4, 6 and 11, organized by the Catalan Authority for the Protection of Dades and the School of Public Administration of Catalonia.

The Catalan Data Protection Authority (APDCAT) and the School of Public Administration of Catalonia (EAPC) are organising the second edition of the training days on artificial intelligence (AI) and data protection for staff in the public sector of the Generalitat de Catalunya and local administration.

The training is offered again this Tuesday 4, Thursday 6 and Tuesday 11 November, following the success of the first edition, which took place last June, with more than 200 workers attending. In order to reach the maximum number of people, the sessions can be followed live via the EAPC YouTube channel (session on the 4th, session on the 6th, session on the 11th).

In welcoming the nearly 200 participants in this edition, the director of APDCAT, Meritxell Borràs i Solé, highlighted the Authority's commitment to the development of AI systems that respect fundamental rights and data protection.

Borràs recalled that APDCAT has been designated as the authority for the protection of fundamental rights in accordance with the AI Act. In this context, and to respond to new challenges, the director highlighted that the Authority has promoted the development of the Catalan FRIA Model for trustworthy AI. This is a pioneering methodology for carrying out the fundamental rights impact assessments in the use of AI, based on the analysis of various use cases.

In this sense, he encouraged attendees to collaborate with the Authority so that work continues with new use cases that test the model, and also to face the challenge of uniting fundamental rights impact assessments and data protection impact assessments into a single methodology.

Training with experts

The training sessions aim to delve deeper into the role of the AI Act, clarify various legal and technological concepts, and discuss the state of AI in the Generalitat and in the local world. They address how to correctly apply artificial intelligence regulations and the role of control authorities, among other topics.

To make this possible, the APDCAT and the EAPC have the participation of data protection experts from the Authority and the Generalitat, the Information and Communications Technologies Center of the Generalitat of Catalonia (CTTI), the General Directorate of Digital Services and Citizen Experience (DGSEC), and the AOC Consortium.
